Unified whole-house media system: A demostration

Before jumping into the implementation details I think it would be good to see what the end result looks like. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video is worth at least 10 thousand words. I made a video to show what I can do at my main TV in the family room using just a small inexpensive media center extender set-top box from Linksys talking to my media PC upstairs via wired or wireless ethernet:

Just as the unified field theory is the holy grail of science, the unified whole-house media system has been the dream of consumer electronics and computer companies as well as A/V enthusiasts.
