Windows Phone 7 is a big disappointment

by pcchan on Oct.17, 2010, under Products to avoid, Tech company misbehaving

The more I read about Windows Phone 7 the worse it looks. Instead of building on their strengths and just fixing what was broken they are abandoning all the good features from the previous Windows Mobile to just offer a subset of what Apple has. It’s as if they just decided to take the “if you can’t beat them join them” approach. Sadly in a market dominated by Apple, Androids, and Blackberrys there’s simply no room for an “Apple imitator”.

iPhone4 reception problem: stupid users should know better

by pcchan on Jun.25, 2010, under Products to avoid, Tech company misbehaving

The widespread reception problem with the iPhone4 which will cause signal to drop from 4 bars to no signal in some cases are apparently a user error according to Steve Jobs. Stupid users! Steve Jobs not only knows best in terms of how you should use your phone and what you can run on it but now he’s purposely design the iPhone4 to force users to hold the phone a specific way for your own good! It is definitely NOT a design flaw!

My take on the Apple iPad

by pcchan on May.29, 2010, under Products to avoid

Sometimes I feel like the lone voice of reason in a world gone mad, or maybe it’s the other way around. As the world goes ga-ga for the Apple iPad, I find it to be unimpressive to say the least. It may surprise some of my readers but I have nothing personal against Apple or their products, and I always keep an open mind when it comes to technology or gadgets. In fact I actually wanted to like the iPad. Hey who wouldn’t like a lighter and thinner device that can replace my big laptop or those “useless” netbooks as Steve Jobs calls them. On launch day I actually had an iPad to play with for a few days in my home. I was very excited as I held it for the first time but I was immediately surprised by the weight of it. Don’t get me wrong it feels very good in the hands and it is very well built . I’m also not saying that it’s heavy or that anyone would have problems lifting it. I’m just saying that it is not something you would comfortably hold in your hand for long periods of time like if you were using it as an ebook reader.  Unfortunately since the iPad is not very usable when it’s laying flat you would have to either get an angled stand or always sit in a sort of sit-up fetal position if you want to use the iPad without holding it.

A negative iPad blog ……OMG!

by pcchan on Jan.30, 2010, under Product spotlight, Products to avoid

It’s amazing just how much the “official” press media and even most major technology blog sites seem to have their lips locked on Apple’s ass. Maybe they’re all getting some sweet Apple perks that I don’t know about.

Avoid the AT&T Tilt

by pcchan on Sep.09, 2009, under Products to avoid

Also known as HTC TyTN II or Kaiser. It’s no longer offered by AT&T as new but you may still find it on ebay or as refurbished. All the people I know with the AT&T Tilt are having reliability problems with it. The most common being that the phone will turn itself off at random and will take several tries just to turn it back on, even when there’s plenty of battery left.
