“Apple can go screw themselves”

Says Lee Brimelow from Adobe. This is in response to Apple’s latest iPhone/iPad OS SDK’s license agreement which seemingly prohibits developers from using Adobe’s upcoming CS5 feature to output apps to the iPhone. Although this move is mainly aimed at Adobe it will also ban developers from using any non-Apple development platform for iPhone apps.

Of course Adobe people are not happy about this but there is also an angry uproar from independent developers the world over. Just search around the web to read all their angry comments. The thing that I find most funny about this situation is that these people feel shocked and somewhat betrayed by Apple. I’m always surprised by how many people out there still cling to the illusion that Apple is a good (morally speaking) company that is about the consumer and innovation when in reality that has never been the case. What makes this even more sad is that this ideal is not even something that Apple is pushing but rather from people’s own wishful thinking. Steve Job’s recent comments about Google’s “Do No Evil” mantra should’ve made it clear to everyone that Jobs don’t care about being “good”. If you’ve read my previous blogs on Apple you’d know that Apple’s products and company history have always been about tight control, closed platforms, no consumer choice, and screwing the consumer in the interest of higher margins. At Apple it’s not about good or evil but just “Steve’s Way” (which by definition is never evil to Apple fanboys since Steve is their god).

I just wish that more people would wake up and realize this so they will not be surprised again by all the anti-consumer and anti-developer crap that Apple has consistently and will continue to do.
