Wish every company was like Netflix

by pcchan on Aug.30, 2009, under Tech company kudos

So the leaked internal “Freedom & Responsibility Culture” slides from Netflix that has been circulating around the net is now officially posted on Netflix’s own website. I’m really glad they decided to do that. I think every manager and high level executive from every company should read this. Here’s the link to the slides on Netflix’s site: http://www.netflix.com/Jobs and here’s the unofficial version on slideshare: http://www.slideshare.net/reed2001/culture-1798664

I like the “Keeper Test” and the “more great people, less rules” concept. I also really like their “we care about how much you get done and not how many hours or days you work” and
the “no vacation limit or tracking” policies. My absolute favorite quote from the slides would have to be “One outstanding employee gets more done and costs less than two adequate
employees”. This has always been one of my beliefs and why I’m so against people who justify outsourcing engineering jobs by saying “we can hire 5 (adequate) engineers in
India for the price of one (outstanding) engineer here in the valley”.
Too bad I don’t qualify for any of Netflix’s job openings. :(
